Brand You & The Institute of Internal Audit

 

Dave Reynolds Chairman of the Institute of Internal Audit UK & Ireland introduced the concept of 'Brand You' to a group of Heads of Internal Audit who attended the event at the Apex International Hotel in Edinburgh, yesterday 22 April 2009.

 

Influencing Models

 

Phil Atkinson ran the event and presented various Influencing and branding models- all with the purpose of helping improve the role and effectiveness of the internal auditor working with their clients.

 

The event went smoothly and Dave introduced the importance of the IIA developing a very robust professional status through applying for chartered status before summarising the session.

 

Congratulations to Jim Thomson who meticulously organised the event at such a great location in the Grassmarket in Edinburgh.

Overview of Projecting the Authentic Self

 

 

Use your authentic self to best effect to influence others. We believe that authenticity, and focusing on one's natural strengths, is critical in influencing others, whether on an individual face to face basis, or within both  large and small group settings.

 

 

We focus on 'Authenticity' simply because that is the real you. In our two day workshop we build on your 'authentic and natural self' to hone your skills, and equip you with the power to influence the behaviour of others. We reject the notion of 'one best way' to influence, and replace it with a self confidence based on who you really are - the real you.

 

 

Presenting or influencing others is solidly based on the important skill of changing how others behave after your have communicated with them. By focusing on changing behaviour as the end product, we can then work with our vast research material to give you the power to control what others receive in terms of your communication.

 

 

We draw on our research into evolutional psychology and the most relevant research in the applied behavioural sciences. You will have the opportunity to test and apply these principles in workshops which are clearly designed to equip you with the skills to radically improve your ability to influence others.

 

 

Attending our tailored two day workshop will enable you to:

  • Focus on your personal traits to be your 'authentic self' when influencing others
  • Build your authentic self confidence
  • Identify the traits of an effective communicator
  • Banish fear of public speaking
  • Learn how to quickly establish rapport with a wide variety of people
  • Develop strategies to influence - assess key objections to your proposals even before you present them to an audience
  • Learn how the brain and the mind works so as to accept your suggestions and proposals
  • Apply the most recent research evidence on how to communicate directly to influence the behaviour of others
  • Learn key methods to influence at the conscious, and other than conscious, levels
  • Learn how to use and apply 'body language' to reinforce your spoken message
  • Understand how to deal with the objections of specific personality types
  • Self-assess your authentic self using six interpersonal influencing strategies

  • Your authenticity and projection to the world
  • Building your self confidence on the real you
  • Developing new strategies and rejecting the fear of public speaking
  • What makes an effective persuader and how do we use our skills and behaviours to best effect?
  • Understanding how the brain works in receiving information
  • Starting with the end in mind
  • Changing the behaviour of others
  • Workshop sessions
  • Preparing your case to influence well in advance
  • Focus on multiple processes of influence

Outline of Day 2

  • Secrets of body, and other non- verbal, language - reading and influencing others
  • Examine personal objections to your proposals
  • Reading the audience, identifying specific personality types, and handling the objections of your audience to your message.
  • Examine your own persuasion strategies
  • Communicate hypnotically - at the subconscious level.
  • Learn to create and manage a strong and positive personal image.
  • Using simple personality 'profiling' to aid the process of influencing with integrity
  • Applying the principles to Workshop sessions
