Personal Effectiveness (PE) & the Authentic Self
When I started out in business I first ran workshops on Personal Effectiveness. There was a large demand because my first book ‘Achieving Results through Time and Life Management’ was quite popular.
The book focused on managing: self, time, priorities, procrastination, teams, meetings, time wasters, self, influencing others and stress to life and career management. I have been asked to update it and this time to include the major theme of authenticity binding the PE themes together.
Even in those early days, I realised that PE and Authenticity do not always gel. Businesses were very focused on results rather finding better ways to achieve even better results. When the PE and Authentic self formula come together you have a real winner.
Organisational Change and Effectiveness from the Inside-Out
My firm belief is that if we can help a person to live their authentic self, and focus on their personal and change strengths, then the organisation has to improve and grow. If you fail to help your people master their potential – the opposite often occurs.
Being Authentic: Mastering Potential
So, this new workshop is designed for those people who want the most from business and life. It’s not a pure business course and neither is it only a personal development workshop. It is a learning process for those who are keen on building their strengths and exploiting and harvesting the rewards in the commercial world. It’s about integrating personal wants with organisational needs.
Authenticity – what’s that then?
Lots of people talk about it, but what is it? Is it more tree-hugging stuff or can it really help improve performance at several levels?
I consider authenticity to be about living a life that is more in tune with your "authentic" self rather than your "fictional" self.
You may not be able to answer because your real authentic self is somewhere in your past. Perhaps you compromised some time ago for a short term gain – but forgot to claim your authentic self back.
Perhaps you can't answer who you are, because you may been confusing who you really are with your “Fictional Self”.
Authentic Behaviour
When behaviour matches values and your beliefs it is almost impossible to be frustrated and stressed. It cannot happen because you operate from your core beliefs. You are working with them – not against them.
When your beliefs are reflected in your actions there is a deep congruence and you cannot help but excel no matter how much you resist – because resistance is zero.
No More Self Sabotage
Just suppose for a minute that, broadly speaking, the work where you have belief and have most value occupies mos,t if not al,l of your time. Keeping that thought – think of these areas from your perspective and that of the organisation.
What about the business?
When you operate from the Core you can only add value to all you work with, and all you do.
If the benefits for attending this session are of value to you and your business, here’s a brief outline of the Workshop.
AM Session is focused on the Individual
PM Session is focused on Action Planning and how to introduce the concept into your organisational culture.
